Plymouth Armed Forces Celebrations – Music Line up confirmed

Armed Forces Day 2014 webZU2, Beatlemania and X-Factor star, Jay James are warming up to perform at this year’s evening concert at Armed Forces Day, Plymouth 2015.

Thousands are expected to visit Plymouth Hoe on Saturday 27 June for a fun-filled day of activities, air-displays and demonstrations to celebrate the city’s Armed Forces.

Councillor Pete Smith, Deputy Leader of Plymouth City Council, said: “Plymouth’s Armed Forces Day celebrations are renowned to be one of the biggest and best in the whole of the country. To give a little extra back to the community we have an evening of entertainment lined-up with some fantastic acts. With a number of up-beat, well-known songs, it certainly is going to be fun night.”

Jay James will kick off the evening concert, sponsored by C & G Catering, at 5pm and will get the party started with a mixture of well-known and new tracks.

Fresh from his association as a finalist with the ITV show the X Factor in 2014/15, and recently finishing the 2015 X Factor live tour, Jay has been playing to over 300,000 people across 23 dates in the biggest arenas and venues in the UK and Ireland.

Jay is a former Royal Navy fitness Instructor from Saundersfoot in South West Wales and he spent some of his serving years in HMS Raleigh. After serving 9 years Jay was badly injured playing Rugby for the Royal Navy Rugby League side and whilst on sick leave decided to learn to play a guitar he had bought 3 months previous as a ‘drunken bet’.

From his first audition Jay caused widespread international interest with his unique voice and background. During the show Simon Cowell described Jay ‘Incredible and a Genius’ with great renditions of ‘Changing’ (Sigma/Paloma Faith), ‘500 Miles’ (Proclaimers) and ‘Skyfall’ (Adele) amongst others.

Jay said: “It’s going to be amazing coming back to Plymouth after all these years, it’s where I started a life changing journey in the Royal Navy at 16 years old and led to a career that sculpted & made me the person I am today, I’m buzzing for it.”

Beatlemania, the ultimate Beatles experience will also be part of the evening concert.

Regarded as one of the UK leading tribute acts, Beatlemania play to ecstatic sell-out audiences throughout the world and regularly appear on television and radio.

The band, which was formed in the summer of 1992, quickly built up a huge nationwide following and since then have gained such a high reputation on the tribute scene that they are constantly in demand internationally.

The evening will come to an end with a performance by ZU2, the world’s most authentic U2 tribute band.

Armed Forces Day will begin at 9.30am and finish at 11pm, for more information go to visitplymouth.co.uk. Also taking place on Plymouth Hoe on Sunday 28 June will be the Royal Naval Band Association Festival.
